This morning, I'm pretty sure Simeon tried espresso for the first time! He went absolutely NUTS! He ran in circles, jumped through the air, and pounced on other cats. My brother opened his bedroom door when Simeon barrelled through the door and squirmed under his bed! After a few minutes, he wiggled out from under the bed, sprang down the stairs, did a lap around the kitchen, and then danced through the living room! I couldn't stop laughing if my life depended on it! It was absolutely hysterical!
This weekend I visited TAPS Animal Shelter in Pekin, IL! There are some really nice cats there. If you are looking for a kitty companion to enlighten your life for years to come, I suggest you drive right down! (More of a dog person? They've got dogs, too!) This is Tippy. She's a REALLY pretty kitty! She's an older cat, but she's simply adorable! She was found outside, wandering in the cold. Luckily, TAPS found and took good care of her. She will sometimes give you a nudge or lick if you pet her precious little ears! Don't have a "leader" for your other cats? Tippy loves to be in charge! This is Vega! She's a sweet little girl you will love! Now, don't judge a book by it's cover. Even though she's missing an eye, she's a nice little kitty. Once she gets to know you, she'll purr and cuddle in your lap. She also enjoys looking out the window and crawling into small spaces. She likes to hang out with other laid back cats. She'll need some tender love and care every day. She'll need her ears cleaned and eye drops every day. Vega kind of reminds me of myself. I need to get my blood sugar checked and get insulin each day. This little kitty is Jewel. She was found at the shelter in a cardboard box (quite similar to Evie May). She used to be small and frail, but she's gained a few pounds since then (just like Evie May). She's soft and sweet but a bit timid. Want your own Evie May? Adopt Jewel today! This is Clarisse! She's a beautiful tiny kitty who is 8 years old and in search of a good home! She likes to be pet and have her ears scratched. This is Dasher. She and I became good friends in a mere few seconds! She's SUPER DUPER DUPER DUPER DUPER DUPER friendly! She is a very nice little kitty. She needs a good home. Will you become her next best friend? There are even more adorable kitty friends at TAPS just waiting to become your best friend! I should know, because Levi and Barnabus came from TAPS! Will it be you who gives a cat the love and joy they deserve? Check out more cats and dogs here! (Credit for this post goes to TAPS Animal Shelter)
Will YOU be the greatest person in these cat's lives? Today is my Birthday! It feels good to be 13! For my Birthday, I celebrated with..... CATS!!!!!
One of the first things I did this morning was eat waffles and pet Levi. Levi acted super sweet and would not refuse a good cuddle! He meowed, he purred.... It was all good in this neighborhood. 😺 I can't wait to get home from school today to pet the cats some more! At my school, there is going to be a symposium to highlight all of the projects that have been made for Language Arts class (including this blog). Here's the info: When: March 27th from 5-7ish Where: starts in the MJHS gymnasium 225 E. Jackson Street, Morton, IL What it's going to look like: Each attendee will get a brochure with student project bios. These bios will be organized into 3 sessions. Each session will be 15 minutes long. The plan is to have each attendee create a schedule for themselves by picking one presentation to go to for 3 sessions. The schedule will look a little like this: -Keynote intro from 5:00 to 5:15 -Session one from 5:15 to 5:30 -Session two from 5:35 to 5:50 -Session three from 5:55 to 6:10 -Keynote conclusion from 6:15 to 6:20 -Meet and greet afterwards Details are still finalizing, so please come back to keep up-to-date with our schedule. So get all cleaned up, put on your Sunday best, and come on down to the symposium! Need some help getting ready? Just hire a monkey assistant like this kitty did: Last week, my proud follower and cousin, Nicole, sent me this book written by her friend: At first, I was shocked by how much the adorable kitty on the front resembles Evie May: Ironically, Evie May was rescued by us just like the cat in the book! It's a REALLY good book. I'm telling everyone! You simply should get a copy!
The story is about a boy who finds a kitty in his yard (who looks shockingly a lot like Evie May). The two become friends, but Cally (the Evie May look-a-like cat) has an adorable secret. You have to read the book to find out her secret! I give this heartwarming book six out of five stars! Not only is it a great book, but it also teaches kids about being humane to animals. I highly recommend this book because, hey, it's about cats! Want to learn more about it or order the book? Click here! Trust me, this book is a classic in the making. Even the cats approve! (I can't wait for the movie!) Our story begins with a part-Siamese cat named Buttons. Buttons was a talkative and crabby cat my parents had before I was born. Sadly enough, Buttons, the part-Siamese cat, passed away. My Mom was sad about Button's passing, so she went to a farm with lots of kittens. She picked out a kitten and named him Moses. The next year, I was born! I was a cute little baby and was very fond of Moses. A few years passed, and my older brother was diagnosed with diabetes. If you can remember, my Mom then got Barnabus to distract her from her sadness about my brothers diagnosis. Some more time passed, and then there was that special garage sale. That was when Solomon decided to join the kitty crew. Not too long after that, my Mom went to clean the shelter and ran into Levi. Then, lastly, our neighbor ran over to our house to announce that she had found little Evie May alone in a box in the weeds. Now remember, Moses watched all of this happen. He sort of became the leader of all the cats. He was a great cat. Moses would snuggle with me every night. But then, one tragic day in January of 2013, Moses passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from an autoimmune disease. And that is where our story begins.... Moses (Dark Tabby) was a very social cat. He enjoyed hanging out with the others. We were all crushed about Moses's passing. Even the cats suddenly became depressed and unhappy. So, my mom decided to look for a new kitten to cheer us up. She searched "Free Kittens in Illinois" on the internet. She pulled up a website and saw this picture: My Mom had love at first sight for the little kitty. She looked where he was, and her jaw dropped. He wasn't free, and he wasn't in Illinois. He was in Wisconsin! That is when she realized he was also a purebred Ragdoll kitten. She decided to contact the Ragdoll breeder just to ask a few questions. They were asking a ton of money for the little furball. My Mom told the breeder the story of us losing Moses and offered her half the asking price for the sweet baby hoping for the best. To our surprise..she accepted the offer! So, we all leapt into the car for a SUPER KITTEN ROADTRIP!!!! We stopped at a Chicago hotel for the night. It was nice, but it was hard to enjoy the hotel with all of the excitement! The next day, we arrived in the small town where the Ragdoll Kitten was. When we went to the breeder's small shop, the happiest thing in my life happened. I watched the breeder pull out the kitten AND HIS TWIN!!! They were the cutest little kitties I had ever seen! We took our kitten, gave the breeder our check, and drove home with our new little bundle of joy. I named him Simeon. (Of course, a biblical name.) I don't want to rub it in my family's face, but I am the one who came up with the name of Simeon for the little kitten. (We were calling him "Sir Stinkem Pants" all of the ride home, because he smelled wretched when we picked him up.) Now Simeon is the biggest of our cats due to his breed. Ragdolls are up there with Maine Coons on the big housecat list. Simeon is also the star of my website!
There's an upcoming blog entry that will be simply amazing. You will all stare at the screen in awe of kitty adorableness. It will be the biggest entry to come to this website. It even mentions a cat not yet mentioned on the website... As for this picture, I just quickly doodled this up on one of my favorite art websites. But, isn't there so much suspense?
Oh boy, this is going to be HUGE!!! When will it be here? This Thursday! Yay! It is the story that started them all... I just got back from a weekend getaway to Chicago, Illinois. It was a nice getaway..... going to the Rainforest Café in the mall (they had animatronic wild cats), swimming in an indoor pool and watching "The Lego Movie" in a really nice city theater. For my followers from far away, Chicago (America's third biggest city) is only a few hours North of our town. It contains buildings that range from the Sear's Tower to a tiny house. We go to Chicago for getaways every so often, but there is one little cat-related task we have to complete before we go on a trip...
Before we go on vacations, we run a "cat count". A "cat count" is when we all scurry around the house and make sure all of the cats are here. Sometimes, it becomes a wild goose chase. It's similar to Hide and Seek, but with cats. It usually begins with a few cats on the sofa which are found in the first two seconds of searching. Then we find cats under the beds. It all goes swimmingly up to a point. There's almost always one cat who decides to hide in a closet. Sometimes it can take a while, but we eventually find them all. You may be asking yourself "Why do they do that?". We do cat counts because one time Solomon was trapped in a closet when we left for vacation. Luckily, our neighbor found him when she stopped by to check on them. Thank heavens she came. I don't know what Solomon would have done without her help! In the spring of 2007, my Dad asked my Mom what she wanted for Mother's Day. Since our dog had recently passed away, she jokingly said she wanted a kitten. To be specific, she said a calico kitten. (What she really wanted was a pergola over her flower bed in the back yard.) A few days later, my Mom and I were out for a drive near the cat shelter. "Can we go look at the kitties?" I asked (I was around 6 years old at the time). My Mom answered "No, honey. We don't need to go look for another kitty. If God wants us to have another, he'll bring us one." Now fast forward a couple of days. It is Mother's Day and my Dad is building my Mom a pergola in her garden. He is about finished but is one board short. So, he leaves to get more supplies. My Mom was waiting on my Dad to return when our neighbor ran up to our house. Our neighbor said "There's a box dumped in the weeds of an empty lot. She could hear crying from it and it sounded like a kitten. My neighbor didn't know much about cats, which is why she came to find my Mom. My Mom quickly went to help. She opened the box and there sat a poor little abandoned calico kitten. Dumbfounded, my Mom saw the poor, sick, skinny little kitten and knew she had to help it. So, she took the little kitten inside our house, locked it in the laundry room (because it was covered with flees) and planned on calling the vet in the morning. My brother and I had already been asleep by the time the kitten had been found. So imagine our surprise early the next morning when we awoke, walked downstairs and heard some noises coming from the laundry room. We opened it up to be startled by a little calico kitten! My brother grabbed the nameless calico stray and trotted upstairs. He burst into our parents bedroom with the little kitten. My Mom was shocked that he had brought the little kitten upstairs. We both exclaimed, "Look what God put in our laundry room!" Later that morning, my Mom took the kitten to the vet. The vet said they would put the kitten up for adoption but not until she was healthy enough. They asked my Mom to keep her for a few weeks and give her some TLC. So my Mom took the kitten home and nursed it back to health. When it was time to give her back to the vet for adoption, my Mom couldn't do it! She had said herself that God would bring us another kitten if we were meant to have one. And He did! So the little calico kitten, AKA Evie May, found a home at last! We named her Evie May. Evie (Eve) since she was our first girl cat and Eve was the first women in the bible. And May since we got her on Mother's Day during the month of May. Despite how scrawny she was in the past, she has gained a LOT of weight. She is now one of our chubbiest cats. I often joke about how chubby she is. Plus, watching her groom herself is hysterical. Whenever she tries to lick her lower back, she tumbles over and rolls about. She also has a high pitched meow when she talks. Overall, Evie May is a really sweet cat, but she likes to show Simeon who is the queen of the house!
Cat fun fact: Mostly all calico cats are female. Males do exist, but are very rare. |
